Rosanna and the Nightgown - Harper's Weekly Illustration
-
Description
In this illustration, Rosanna Spearman, one of Lady Verinder's housemaids, sits with what can be assumed to be Franklin Blake's nightgown. Being one of the main pieces of evidence that pointed to Franklin's involvement in the thievery of the diamond, Rosanna is vividly depicted as having a distraught, despairing expression as she clutches the nightgown – for Franklin is the man she loves. This scene in the novel is told through her letter to Franklin, following her suicide.
